Step 2: annotated working bibliography

WHAT TO DO: Based on preliminary research, collect a list of texts that you might use for your research, including your notes on where to access the text and why you think it’s pertinent for your research. Annotation might include a summary, quotations, questions, or other notes.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Length: at least 10 possible college-level sources
  • Entries on the list should be in correct MLA format
  • Identify where/how they are available (nearest library—include call number; through Amazon—include cost; full-text online; DVD—include location/availability, etc.)
  • Include:
    1. one assigned course reading;
    2. at least one interview with an expert;
    3. at least one print book;
    4. at least one periodical;
    5. at least one websource
    6. Optional: a book chapter, a documentary, a TED talk, an essay, a poem, a short story, a performance, a work of art, or an episode of a television show

These lists will be reviewed in group workshop sessions during ENG 111 classes to determine:

  • Whether the material is pertinent to the research
  • Whether the material is reliable and appropriate
  • Whether the material has sufficient depth
  • Whether the material is accessible
  • Whether MLA formatting is done correctly
