The Finished Project

Due: November 27

Your finished project will be a 7-10 page script for a 10-15 minute podcast that follows up on a theme, idea, or research area prompted by this class. It should be a specific, in-depth examination of a question that connects with the issue of historical remembrance. The typed script must rely on information and quotations from reliable outside sources and it must be properly documented using MLA style. Specific requirements and project steps are detailed below.

TOPICS

You will choose your own topic, but here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • What are the formal features of street memorials like those we see painted on the sides of buildings around New York City?
  • What is an appropriate way to remember the people who were tortured and killed under the rule of Rafael Trujillo, the former President of the Dominican Republic?
  • How should the genocide of Native American people be memorialized?
  • What kinds of memorials are appropriate for victims of traffic fatalities?
  • What is the best way to honor soldiers killed in wartime?
  • Why might some people be unhappy with New York City’s 9/11 memorial?
